What is a warded lock?
Warded locks use a set of wards or obstructions that are designed to prevent the lock from releasing until the correct key has been inserted. The correct key would have slots or notches that correspond or fit to the wards in the lock. Only the corresponding key would rotate inside the lock. This type of lock usually provides a low level of security as skeleton keys can easily open wide varieties of warded locks.
I am transferring to a new home. Is there a need for me to get new locks?
As recommended by the team at Locksmith Puyallup , getting new locks is the better option. After all, if you are moving to a new home, especially one which was used by previous owners, there are most likely already copies and duplicates of the key. For your own security, it is vital to change the locks and keys in your new home.
How do locks affect my insurance policy?
In all probability your insurer will ensure that your home is secure. They will also specify whether you require a five-lever mortice deadlock or a multi-point system. Other options include the rim auto dead latch.
Why can’t I insert my key inside the lock?
The cylinder must be blocked or faulty. If it is blocked with debris, it may be possible to clean it and to restore its normal operation. If it has failed, replacing it is the only solution. You can take measures to protect the cylinder in the future. Lubricate the lock regularly and cover it when you make repairs and improvements at home.
